Four Magical Full Moon Rituals

Full moons have always been a time for connecting to our spirit and inner sacred selves. There have been many traditions throughout the years honouring all phases of the moon, with many Eastern practices still celebrating holidays syncing to the lunar calendar.

Whilst a new moon brings new beginnings, full moons are symbolic of the culmination of celebration, fruition, energy and completion, as well as releasing and letting go of the old to make way for a new cycle.

This is why setting intentions around a full moon has become a regular practice for a lot of us.

This may sound a bit wooo-woooo for some but if you think about it our ancestors hunted, planted and fished and cycles of the lunar moon. They survived long enough to bring us into the industrial and then the digital ages. But in our tech-driven society, it’s so easy to fall out of nature’s rhythms. Here are a few ways you can tune back in…..
Try one or two, or experiment with whatever you feel drawn to. It’s a full moon after all, so trust your intuition!

  1. Clear your Space/ Energy with Sage: Smudging Ritual

Smudging is wonderful to perform after any of the suggested rituals, additionally it can be done independently and any time of the lunar calendar.
For this ritual; you will need a sage wand/bundle, which can be bought from most spiritual/new age shops as well as online. Check out our sage smudge sticks at www.thesanctuarybne.com.
Smudging is a powerful energy clearing ritual used during traditional Native ceremonies. It is said to help release negative, toxic, stagnant energies, and even get rid of bad or negative energy and spirits.
A full moon night is the perfect time for a smudging ritual, after facing and releasing is not bringing you good vibes, you can ceremoniously clear it away with the smoke of the sage.
To perform this ritual burn the dried sage bundle, keeping a ceramic/fire-safe dish underneath to catch the ashes, and simply waft it around your entire body.
As you do so, set your full moon intentions, for example, “I release that which no longer serves me”.
After smudging yourself, you can smudge your space by waving the wand in the corners and centers of each room in your home and anywhere you feel drawn to, follow your inner self and let it guide you.
After the ritual, open all your windows to air out the smoke and let new, fresh energy into your home.

    1. Connect with the Moon Goddesses

Because of our monthly cycles woman have a intimate and inate connection with the moon. Because the full moon corresponds to the Mother (at its fullest) and Crone (just after full/starting to wane), the goddesses associated with it are intuitive Egyptian goddess Isis and Celtic Morrigan, Mayan healing goddess Ixchel, maternal Greek goddesses Demeter and Selene just to name a few.

To connect with them, simply sit in meditation, state the name of a goddess you wish to invite and any specific area you wish to work on with her. For example, you can invite Demeter to nourish yourself and be more receptive, Ixchel to heal your menstrual cycle, Frigg for fertility, and Isis and Moriggan for increased intuition.

    1. Shed Light on Darkness: Journal Ritual
One of the reasoning behind why we can feel so emotional around a full moon is because it is a time of making the hidden seen and the unknown known etc. Naturally, this includes relationships and patterns that are not in alignment with our truth and highest good.
The best thing we can do during such a time is take some time to express everything we are feeling in a safe and healthy way.
One simple ritual to bring light to any darkness you may be facing is to take a sheet of paper and write out everything you are feeling—unfiltered! Notice any surprises or insights you gain about issues that are important to you. Have you been ignoring your feelings in a certain area of your life? Have you been settling or compromising your truth and boundaries? Are you ready to release what’s no longer serving you?

You don’t need to know the answers, but it’s important to ask the questions.

Write an intention at the end, such as, “I now release all that no longer serves me for my best and highest good.”

         4. Charge/ Cleanse Your Spiritual Tools

The light of the full moon amplifies everything with magic, so it’s a great time to infuse this energy into our spiritual tools, like crystals, essential oils and incense, etc.
I recommend cleansing your tools with sage first, as mentioned above, so that they are pure and clear and ready to absorb the Moons energy.
To “charge” them, set your intention with each object and place it somewhere safe where it can get the most amount of moonlight throughout the night.
Make sure that you collect all your itmes back in the morning, as some crystals and spiritual items can react to and alter with sunlight.
When you place each object back in its place, thank each one, along with the moon, for their potent new energy.
As you practice these rituals, know that you are harnessing the magical energies and gifts of a time that can otherwise feel overwhelming and out of control.
Learning how to embrace the magical phases of the moon helps elevate our human existence into sacred experience.

    Happy Full Moon!!
